A fifth person has filed paperwork to be a write-in candidate for Danville Mayor. This means a February primary could be necessary.
Sheldon McClain filed a “Declaration of Intent to be A Write-In Candidate” for mayor at the Danville Election Commission office. This means there would be five candidates for mayor. The others are Mayor Rickey Williams Jr., Donald Crews, James McMahon and Steve Nichols.
According to the Illinois State Board of Elections, a write-in candidate can trigger a primary election if that candidate files paperwork prior to the ballot certification on Dec. 20 and becomes the fifth candidate in a race. A primary on Feb. 26 would narrow down the five mayoral candidates to four for the consolidated election on April 2.
McClain owns Pullup, a ride share transportation service in Danville.
McClain said he will submit petitions of registered voters too as part of his paperwork submission prior to Dec. 20.
