The Danville city council next week will deal with a city tax levy proposal that includes increase in the public safety pension fee and property taxes. Under the tax levy plan supported by Acting Mayor Rickey Williams, there would be a10 percent public safety pension fee increase and 4.98 percent property tax increase. The levy also shows $410,000 in city cuts and/or new revenue needed. Some aldermen have expressed concern with the proposal and it can be adjusted with amendments. One proposed amendment would have the library not receive its proposed 3.68 percent tax increase. Other council members suggest a two percent hotel/motel tax increase. There also is a suggestion to tax video gambling machines.
