THE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE WAS UP SLIGHTLY IN MOST ILLINOIS METRO AREAS LAST MONTH.
The unemployment rate locally was a mixed bag. The rate went up in Champaign County to 4.3%. It was 3.8% a year ago. The Vermilion County was down slightly to 5.5%. It was 5.6% last October. The unemployment rate also fell in the city of Danville. It stands at 6 percent, down from 6.5 % a year ago. Local Job gains were reported in Professional & Business Services, Education & Health Services, Wholesale Trade, Manufacturing, Transportation, Warehousing, & Utilities.
In Champaign the jobless rate went up to 4.5% from 3.9% in 2017. It also went up to 4.5 percent in Urbana, a hike from 4 percent in 2017. These are year to year rates, comparisons with a month to month rate could be very different.
