The Danville Housing Authority has been given permission to demolish six buildings containing 57 public housing units at the Fair Oaks public housing complex.
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development gave approval to demolish the buildings which could start in the spring.
Demolishing the buildings will open up space among the close buildings. There are 41 residential buildings at Fair Oaks. Officials have said they want to reduce the density at the public housing complex to improve quality of life and decrease crime and other issues. 130 residents will be impacted with the demolitions. Each family will have the right to remain in another HACD owned public housing property, or receive a housing voucher to relocate to the locale of their choice.
