The cost of preparing a Thanksgiving Dinner is down for the third straight year. This comes from a report from the American Farm Bureau Federation’s 33rd annual price survey of the foods most commonly used for a Thanksgiving meal. The report found that the average cost this year for a group of 10 is $48.90, or less than $5 a person. In Vermilion County, that cost is even lower, at $42.21, over 5% less than in last year. Thanksgiving dinner in Vermilion County costs over 13% less than the national average. The shopping list for the survey includes turkey, bread stuffing, sweet potatoes, rolls with butter, peas, cranberries, a veggie tray, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and coffee and milk, all in quantities sufficient to serve a family of 10 with plenty for leftovers.
