The Democrats swept the state wide offices in Illinois, but they were not as successful locally in yesterday’s election.
Republicans won all of the Vermilion County offices. One of the Republican victors was County clerk Cathy Jenkins, who was re-elected. She said the local races did not feature any of the negative attack ads that were present elsewhere
Other Republicans who won were Treasurer Darren Duncan, Sheriff Pat Hartshorn, Supervisor of Assessments Matthew Long, and Regional Superintendent of schools Cheryl Reifsteck
Republican Mike Marron also won for representative in the 104th district. He says his agenda now is economic development
Statewide JB Pritzker won the Governor’s race. Other Democrats that won were Kwane Raoul for Attorney General, Jesse White for Secretary of State, Susana Mendoza for Comptroller and Mike Frerichs for Treasurer.
The proposal to change the form of Danville government was defeated. One of those leading the proposal idea was Pat O’Shaughnessy. He was disappointed but feels that the city wide discussion on the government was good because it increased public awareness
Acting Danville Mayor Rickey Williams was glad to see the referendum be defeated. He agreed that now is the time for everyone to work together to improve Danville
It was a special night for Williams. He was sworn in as Danville Mayor before the City Council meeting. He will fill the remainder of Scott Eisenhauer’s term. Eisenhauer left to become village administrator in Rantoul. Williams was chosen Acting Mayor by the aldermen. Williams says he will seek the four year term as Mayor in the city elections this spring.
