The students at Northeast Elementary Magnet School in Danville are all gold medal winners. Students recently got the gold medals for their contribution in making their school one of “America’s Healthiest Schools” for 2018.
Fifteen schools in Illinois received bronze or silver, but Northeast was the only school in the state to earn gold. Northeast was among schools in 26 states that were recognized by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a national organization that empowers youngsters to develop lifelong healthy habits. Schools are rated on their ability to meet a rigorous set of criteria, including serving healthier meals and snacks, getting students moving more, offering high-quality health and physical education, and empowering school leaders to become healthy role models.
