Some Danville aldermen are recommending the city council not act on a new city budget until next year. Reasons include having better revenue and expenses projections and new leadership coming into city government.
Aldermen also asked for additional tax levy scenarios of having no property tax increase or a smaller property tax increase and higher public safety pension fee increase.
Soon to be Acting Mayor Rickey Williams said federal grant money for firefighter training and equipment also can help lower any property tax increase.
The committee also recommended approving application for an Assistance to Firefighters Grant. The grant request is for $288,750 and the city’s match could be $26,250 for equipment and training for the six firefighters to be hired under another grant.
