First Presbyterian Church in Danville has won a state award for its efforts in protecting the environment, and helping sustain the future. The church was one of the organizations honored during a ceremony in Chicago.
The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center presented Sustainability Awards to organizations in Illinois that have demonstrated a commitment to environmental excellence through outstanding and innovative sustainability practices. ISTC is a division of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois.
First Presbyterian was honored for its efforts to use more efficient lighting, installing programmable thermostat, modernizing the heating and air conditioning system updating steam traps, and water pumps. The old inefficient, and leaking windows in the gym also were replaced.
First Presbyterian is the first church to ever win an Illinois Sustainability Award. Other local organizations among those winning an Illinois Sustainability Award are:
