Vermilion County voters are being warned about some phone calls that may be trying to access your personal information. County Clerk Cathy Jenkins says her office has received reports of phone calls impersonating an organization that provides voter registration assistance and mentions her office and her name. The callers ask the person who answers the phone whether they want to register to vote or request an absentee ballot. Jenkins says her office NEVER uses phone solicitations. Jenkins is concerned the calls could raise voter confusion on Election Day. She is asking anyone who receives such a call to call her office immediately.
Voter registration requires residents to provide significant personal information and you should never give that information over the phone. Jenkins says the information could be used for fraudulent voter registration or for identity theft.
