A grant to hire more firefighters and salary levels for some elected officials are heading to the full city council.
The Public Services committee voted to accept a 1.1 Million dollar grant that would fund 6 firefighters for the next three years. Some council members have expressed concern about some of the language in the grant that was prepared by local firemen. The city is under no obligation to keep the additional firefighters after the three years.
The Committee also recommended salaries for officials to be elected this spring. They recommended raising the full-time mayor’s salary from $73,000 to $75,000. The committee is recommending setting the salary for a part-time mayor at $10-thousand dollars. But the figures are subject to change when the full city council acts on the package later. City council members have not yet set what the duties would be for a part time mayor if the change in government being proposed is approved.
The committee also recommended salaries for the city treasurer and the aldermen.
