The Danville Fire Department has received official notification that it has received a grant to hire six firefighters. The Danville City Council still must to accept or deny the 1.14 million dollar grant.
The city now has 30 days to accept the grant. Firefighters hope to make a formal presentation to the Danville City Council’s Public Services Committee on Sept. 25 and have the full Danville City Council on Oct. 2 approve acceptance of the grant. The grant is for six firefighters for three years.
Firefighters say the additional manpower will allow an increase in the manning per shift to cover vacations and days off and help eliminate overtime. The grant doesn’t require city officials to commit keeping the firefighters at the end of the three years.
