Danville aldermen are discussing salaries for elected officials. Since voters in November will decide if Danville should continue the current form of government or begin a city manager/aldermanic form, two different mayoral salaries were discussed by the Public Service Committee. There was discussion of raising the fulltime mayor salary to 80-100 thousand dollars a year. It currently stands at 73 thousand dollars. However, if the referendum passes, the mayor would be a part-time post. Talk for that post was 25-35 thousand dollars. The aldermen currently make 225 dollar a month or $2,700 a year. There was discussion of increasing that to at least $375 a month or $4,500 a year.
The city council must set the salaries 180 days prior to the elected officials taking office next year. The salaries will continue to be discussed into next month.
