The investigation continues into what Danville police believe is a targeted killing of a 43-year-old Danville man. Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason said police received a call of a possible personal injury accident near the intersection of Fairchild and Fowler streets.
When officers arrived in the area they located a vehicle off the road with a male driver slumped over, Thomason said. It was then discovered the victim had what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The name of the individual is not being released pending notifications of relatives by the Vermilion County Coroner. Thomason said that the incident is not considered to be a random incident and the individual was likely an intended target. Danville detectives are being assisted by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit.
Anyone with information about the shooting are asked to contact Danville Police detectives at 217-431-2250 or call Crimestoppers at 217-446-TIPS if they wish to remain anonymous and possibly receive a cash reward for their information.
