A Westville man had to be airlifted to the hospital after a motorcycle-truck accident on Route 1, in south Danville.
Police say the truck was driving northbound when a 60 year old man ran out in front of it. The driver slammed on the brakes. The 28-year-old driver of the motorcycle was following the truck, and was forced to swerve to avoid a collision.
The motorcycle hit the rear of the pickup truck, causing the motorcycle to fall on its side in the southbound lanes. The rider was taken by helicopter to Carle Foundation Hospital. The helicopter that transported the motorcyclist landed on the highway, and as a result both north and southbound lanes in the area of the crash were closed for a while. No word on the extent of the victim’s injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt. The pedestrian was cited for improperly walking in the roadway and failing to cross at a crosswalk.
Police have not released the names of any of those involved.
