Danville Area Community College has received a $20,000 gift from the Arconic Foundation to help support a project at the college’s sustainability farm. Arconic was formerly known as Alcoa.
The funds will be used for the sustainability farm enhancement project, which entails improving the honey bee project with new bees and hives, bee suits and honey harvest equipment. An observation hive is planned so children and adult members of the community can safely experience hive action.
Another portion of the funds will provide tools and new equipment to the Student run farm. The farm is a cross-curricular project involving horticulture, agriculture, biology, art, sustainability and culinary arts.
