There could be some new gaming legislation introduced soon that would bring a casino to Danville. Representative Bob Rita hopes to develop new gaming expansion legislation after the November election. Rita plans to bring two House committees together for legislative hearings aimed at bringing gaming expansion and broad economic opportunity to Illinois.
Rita wants to have hearings on the measure he presented at the end of the session. It would combine new casinos including in Danville, race track slot machines, internet gaming, fantasy sports and sports betting. He hopes to build a consensus proposal that could be considered in Springfield after election.
Local officials have said a riverboat casino in Danville could mean 600 construction jobs; 600-800 permanent jobs; about $5 million in annual revenue and additional money from taxes. Sixty-five percent of revenue for a Danville casino is estimated to come from Indiana.
