The removal of two Danville dams is finally underway. The city council voted to remove them for safety reason in 2013. But state money for the project was tied up in the budget impasse. The budget this year funded the project and the city expected it to begin this summer, as it has.
The first to be removed is the dam located in the Vermilion River behind the Public Safety Building. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources also released funding for the removal of another dam on the North Fork River at Ellsworth Park. Work on that is expected to bring later this summer.
