Champaign-Urbana’s Willard Airport has added flights to Charlotte, North Carolina. The flights on American Airlines will begin on December 19. The announcement came a little more than a week after United Airlines announced it would be canceling service in September to Willard from Chicago O’Hare International Airport. Charlotte is the second largest hub for American. The Charlotte hub has flights to 160 destinations in 25 countries. In addition, Willard this week received a $1.8 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to reconstruct its taxiway. Construction is expected to start in the Spring.
