Starting Sunday, Housing Authority of the City of Danville properties will be smoke-free. Planning for the new federal housing regulations has been occurring for the last couple of years. The policy provides warnings for the first two times. Violations then move forward with a $50 fine. The last case scenario is eviction. There will be signs stating “No smoking within 25 feet of all building entrances.” HUD’s smoke-free rules aim to provide a healthier living environment.
The smoke-free rule will affect the Danville housing authority’s five public housing developments at Fair Oaks, Beeler Terrace, Mer Che Manor, Churchill Towers and Madison Court.
