OSF Health has launched a new pediatric facility in Urbana. The new clinic, OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois, is across the street from OSF Heart of Mary Medical Center, the former Presence Covenant Medical Center in Urbana. This will be OSF’s 17th satellite pediatric facility. Pediatric cardiology and surgery specialists are now working at the facility, and there will soon be pediatric hematology and oncology added in July. According to OSF, their hospital system sees a lot of pediatric patients in the Champaign-Urbana and Danville areas that require outpatient care after initial treatment. The idea is to bring follow-up specialists closer to home for these patients. The facility will also allow for consultations and have a social worker on site. The social worker is designed to help families “navigate the system, group out-of-town medical visits, and arrange for meals and overnight stays at OSF’s family lodging in Peoria if needed, according to director of business and program development, Mike Wells. Wells says that office hours will be evaluated based on patient volume and additional specialists and hours will be offered if there is a need.
