Aqua Illinois will begin its annual system-wide hydrant flushing and maintenance program on Thursday, May 24. All 1,900 fire hydrants will be flushed and inspected to ensure proper operation. It is anticipated that it will take four weeks to complete the flushing and inspection of all fire hydrants in the region.
Aqua’s hydrant flushing and inspection program is designed to improve water quality and ensure that fire hydrants will operate correctly when needed. Crews will work each weekday at different locations throughout the distribution system until all hydrants are flushed. During the flushing program, customers may experience decreased water pressure or temporary water discoloration. Discoloration can be eliminated by running cold water for a few minutes until it clears.
