THE OVER-THE-YEAR UNEMPLOYMENT RATE FELL IN ALL ILLINOIS METRO AREAS LAST MONTH.
The jobless rate in Vermilion County fell to 5.8 percent. It was 6.5 a year ago. In Champaign County, it was 3.8 percent, down from 4.4 last year. Those numbers were identical for the city of Champaign. In the city of Urbana, the unemployment rate was 3.6 percent. It was 4.3 a year ago. In the city of Danville, the rate is 5.8 percent, an improvement from 6.9 a year ago. While the jobless rate fell, Danville actually lost some 300 jobs during the past year. It was among the three cities with the largest job losses. The others are Springfield and Carbondale.
The Illinois rate was 4.4 percent in March. The unemployment rate identifies those who are out of work and looking for work, and is not tied to collecting unemployment insurance benefits.
