A Chicago man is in jail following the shooting of a man in the parking lot of a Danville fast food restaurant. Shortly before noon Monday Danville Police responded to the area of the 1000 block of Clarence St for a report of a victim with a gunshot wound. Danville police Commander Josh Webb said they found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg.
The victim reported he was leaving the parking lot of McDonalds’s at the corner of Bowman and Main Street when he saw a man on foot, who was shooting at him. The victim said his vehicle was struck by gunfire several times, and one of the shots struck him in the leg.
After the victim described the suspect, police began searching the area for him. A short time later, Webb said, police made a traffic stop near Main and Crawford streets and a passenger was held for possessing a handgun. Webb said the victim identified passenger, 20 year old Darrell Callahan, as the man who was shooting at him. Callahan was arrested on preliminary charges of aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and criminal damage to property. Webb said police determined the driver of the vehicle was just giving Callahan a ride and had nothing to do with the shooting. The driver was later released.
