Vermilion County board chairman Mike Marron has contacted the HUD office in Chicago in hopes of settling a dispute that caused the resignation of all members of the Vermilion County Housing Authority. This agent oversees housing outside of Danville and is not connected to the Danville Housing Authority.
Marron appoints members of this agency. He said he is reluctant to appoint any new members until the issue is resolved.
The issue stems from a loan taken out by the former Executive Director of the local board. He was fired for improper financial practices, and the federal agency said the 1.6 million dollar loan was not valid. The loan has not been paid for several years, and now a local bank has filed suit seeking the money.
Marron thinks the County is entitled to know more about this loan issue. He says he has heard from the former Board members about their concerns and while his authority is limited to the appointment process, I think the County has an interest in knowing what is going on and why. He asks the federal to set up a meeting, hopefully prior to the April county board meeting.
