11 ILLINOIS METRO AREAS POSTED OVER-THE-YEAR JOB GAINS IN JANUARY. Danville was one of only three metro areas that lost jobs over the year. However, the unemployment numbers for Danville did decrease substantially. The rate now is 6.5 percent, a year ago it was 8 percent. The unemployment rate in Urbana was 3.8 percent, down from 5.1 percent. In the city of Champaign it stands at 4 percent, a drop from 5.1 past year. In Champaign County, the jobless rate is 4.1 percent, a decrease from 5.4 last year. In Vermilion county, it is 6 percent, a drop from 7.8 a year ago.
