A long awaited construction project is finally underway at the Danville Public Library. The construction project will run through December and cost 350 thousand dollars. Funding for the construction project is coming from the Danville Library Foundation. Planning for the changes has been going on for years.
There will be more technology and room for the Teen Space which is moving from the second floor to the first. The reading chair area where the newspapers and magazines were across from the circulation and children’s areas is now empty on the first floor. That section of the library has been relocated to the second floor to make way for the new teen space. The renovation project will include an enclosed large group study room in the second floor archives area, an office for the facilities manager and additional storage. There also will be ceiling changes to the smaller second-floor study rooms to improve sound, and lighting changes throughout the library to LED lighting. The changes have caused some book and other collections also to be moved around, some temporarily but some permanently like the newspapers and magazines.
