The city of Danville is moving forward with its lawsuit against the former owners of Collins Tower. The Bresee Tower was just renamed when Chris and Jeri Collins bought it. They plan to turn it into a hotel, convention center and amusement park.
The exterior of the 100-year old building has been falling for years. The city sued former owner, Land Company of Danville, for not addressing the building’s public safety risk. LCD is sending the city a cease and desist order to keep the city from “further slandering and defaming our corporate name by making false allegations of debts due to the city.” The Collins are not involved in the lawsuit.
Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer said the city has not dropped the lawsuit because Land Company still owes taxpayers for expenses the city had in trying to protect the public.
The Mayor added the new owners have received a letter indicating a timeline for when the exterior protection must be completed. And Mayor Eisenhauer says the Collins have indicated they can meet it.
