Drivers are being warned that there are even more construction zones on I-74. A new zone has traffic is down to one lane starting east of the St. Joe exit through the High Cross Road overpass near Urbana. Police say drivers need to stay alert, slow down and stop using cell phones.
Trooper Tracy Lillard says police have handled six fatal crashes on I-74 between Urbana and Danville this year. State police have stepped up patrols in the area to keep drivers safe. The ticket for texting in a construction zone is $120; $375 for speeding in a construction zone, plus a mandatory court appearance. Hitting a worker can result in jail time and a $10,000 fine.
