The copy of a petition to change the form of Danville city government was filed in Vermilion County court yesterday afternoon.
The mayor, the city attorney, the City Clerk and the Danville Election Commission were also served with copies of the petitions and signatures. Once a case number is given by the court, which is expected today, the Moving Danville Forward group will ask for a court date. They will publish the notice and appear on that date with the original petitions and any other supporting documents.
The petitions ask for a referendum to be placed on the November ballot asking to turn Danville into a city manager/Alderman form of government. Under the plan, the mayor would be a part-time position and there still would be 14 aldermen elected by ward.
