Local State Representative Chad Hays saw his legislation dealing with eligibility in workforce training program pass unanimously out of the Illinois House of Representatives this week. The bill creates a five-year demonstration program to provide an intensive workforce training program for entry level workers and a multi-generational healthy family initiative. Hays said the legislation comes at the suggestion of Carle Foundation Hospital which operates two such projects.
By allowing for a 36 month income disregard for program participants, participants can focus on gaining valuable workforce and parenting skills that will help lift them out of poverty, without having to contend with a sudden loss of services should they exceed income eligibility levels.
The measure was approved on a vote of 101-0 and now heads to the Governor’s desk for his signature.
