Vermilion County Officials and local labor leaders are getting together to finish a remodeling at the Education Center at Kennekuk County Park. Vermilion County Conservation District Foundation Board President Jonathan Myers, County Board Chairman Michael Marron and members of the East Central Illinois Building Trade Council announced they all will collaborate to finish the project.
An earlier plan for the building met opposition from labor officials and others. That plan included scaling back the original plans, leasing park property to a private entity and possibly skirting prevailing wage laws.
Now a collaborative effort, will use ideas and skills from all group members and the community to move forward while adhering to a bidding process, prevailing wages and other laws pertaining to public projects.
The next phase of the project will be additional classroom space. The phase after that will be a conference center.
The group is developing working groups to organize a construction plan and bring their recommendations to the conservation district board in the fall. Money for the project will come from donations and other fund raising efforts.
