The group opposing the change in Danville city government is looking for volunteers. The group held a public information session about the proposed change over the weekend. The group now consists of City Council members Lloyd Randle and Brenda Brown. Randle says the group is holding another meeting on May 17 at 6 p.m. at the Laura Lee building at 212 Williams in Danville to get volunteers to help with the effort to oppose the plan
The group Moving Danville Forward is gathered signatures on petitions to get a referendum on the November ballot. The group wants to change Danville to a City Manager/Aldermanic government. The plan would make the mayor a part-time post. Although the proposal calls for no changes in the number of aldermen or Wards, Randle fears this could change in the future
Danville became a Mayor/Aldermanic form of government in 1987 due to a federal court order.
Randle admits that Danville has hard economic times, but he says it is important that fairness to all parts of the community remain the chief goal.
