A Danville woman known for her volunteer work is being honored as the 2018 AMBUCS First Citizen. Mary Thompson will be honored at a banquet on Thursday for her 30 years of volunteer service to the community. Thompson is the 85th recipient of the award and the first African-American female honoree.
She is the long time chair of Danville’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration. She also has served as a hospice volunteer at the Danville hospital, been a volunteer for Faith in Action, and the Meals on Wheels program. She serves on the Danville Human Relations Commission, CRIS board and the OSF Patient Advisory Committee. She also is active in her church First Presbyterian Danville.
