The sales tax increase designed to help Vermilion County schools has been defeated in the Primary election. The referendum asked voters across the county whether they would support increasing the sales tax by one percent… with the money going to support school facility improvements. The vote won by an eye lash in Vermilion County districts, by only 28 votes. But it was soundly defeated by voters in the City of Danville. Danville Mayor Scott Eisenhauer had opposed the idea. He is concerned that raising the sales tax could drive shoppers out of Danville.
Mary Catherine Roberson defeated Darrin Holycross for the Democratic nomination for Vermilion County Clerk. Incumbent Cathy Jenkins won the Republican nomination. All of the other county wide offices were unopposed elections.
In the Democratic race for County board District 9, Bruce Stark and Diana Brenneman won a race for two seats, beating Frank Hoskins. In the Republican race for one seat in County Board district two, Daniel Wright defeated Barbara Delanois
Cynthia Cunningham won the Democratic race for the 104th District Representative, defeating Frank McCullough. She will be opposed by Republican Mike Marron. They are battling for the seat held by Chad hays who is retiring.
For the 15th Congressional District, Kevin Gaither defeated Carl Spoerer. John Shimkus is running on the Republican ticket as the incumbent.
In The 13th Congressional District Betsy Londrigan won the Democratic nomination. She will face Republican incumbent Rodney Davis.
The referendum to establish a Library in Potomac was approved.
The local voter turnout was 23 for Vermilion County precinct. The voter turnout was 19 percent in the city of Danville.
